The national solar energy mission has succeeded in bringing down the price of per unit of electricity produced through solar energy. This was possible through a method of reverse auctioning. Experts are of the opinion that the price of solar power will match to that of the coal or natural gas by 2016. The output has also increased from that of 17.8 MW in December 2010 to 506.9 MW in March 2012. However, lack of skilled workers in India has hit the solar sector quite hard and is threatening its growth.
