Mankind plans to foray into chronic drug business

Delhi based Mankind Pharma Ltd. is planning to enter the chronic drug segment to raise its turnaround and profit margin. The company is in plans to enter diabetes and cardiovascular drug segment within FY 2012-13 by launching as many as 15-16 products. The company currently has products in consumer brand category and acute disease pharmaceutical that last for a short duration and require therapies like anti-infectives, pain-killers or analgesics but are poor revenue earners because of its low price.

The company currently being positioned 7th in the drug market is targeting 2nd or 3rd position in the next 3-4 years for which it has strategically planned to penetrate in the chronic drugs segment thereby enabling the company to earn higher revenue.
