On 4th June, 2012, Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) authorities has been asked by the state government to give away allotment letters for 146 fishing stalls to their owners within the next 3 days with the aim to accelerate the work near the harbour’s zero gate.
Due to delay in allotment of new stalls to fishermen and relocation of Bhavani Amman temple, the road widening project on the 1.6 km part from ChPT zero gate to Kasimedu Fishing Harbour as part of the Ennore-Manali Road Improvement Project was stalled. After the issue was brought into notice of Shipping Minister, ChPT has been immediately directed to issue the relevant orders. This unnecessary delay in allocation of stalls to the fishermen can pose a threat to the fishing business.
