This initiative will provide a tremendous boost to efforts being made to shift cargo movement from congested and risky roads to waterways. Further to encourage coastal shipping the State government will start operating a chartered ship between Kollam and Kochi by end of May 2013.

GE launches innovative technology in Indian medical device market

GE Healthcare has very recently launched its 1st healthcare technology experiential lounge on wheels under its Mission Healthier India in Coimbatore. The entire set up has been built at a cost of INR 4 mn that comprises of equipment such as ECG, scan, critical tools and infant care technologies. The mission was focused at upliftment of women and maternal infant health, cardiac diseases and critical care in small towns and villages of Tamil Nadu.

With launch of this lounge, GE is aggressively promoting the technology at hospitals, nursing homes and clinics in 50 towns of Tamil Nadu. This is a worthy innovation by GE in India’s medical device market that would steer forth speedy diagnosis of diseases and disorders.

Indian healthcare industry will very soon launch its 1st completely indigenous and affordable rotavirus diarrhoea vaccine that took almost 28 years of hard work. The results of the Phase III clinical trial of the Rotavac vaccine was announced at an international conference that declared efficiency level at 56% in the 1st year of life. The oral vaccination is administered to infants in a 3 dose course at the ages of 6, 10 and 14 weeks alongside routine immunizations recommended at these ages.

Commercial production of the same will be initiated after it gets clearance from Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Ltd. which was associated in the development of vaccine candidates and clinical trials has declared a price of approximately INR 53.92, a relatively much lower price than other rotavirus vaccinations currently available in the market.

Gati Ltd, one of leading player in the transportation & logistics market has sold 40% of its stake in Gati Ship to Riba Constructions. The deal was worth INR 80 mn which is expected to be complete by June 2013.

The express distribution and supply chain solutions provider has plans to divest further in the shipping division as it aims to hold minority stake. Gati is also talking with others besides Riba for stake sale. The transportation & logistics market will see more such divestment by Gati as it is suffering extensive losses in the shipping division.
