@MSN.com: The licensing & merchandising arm of Zapak, Zapak Games, has come up with official ICC World Cup 2011 game in India. It launched the game with 25,000 units across India. As a response to the increasing demand for the product, the company plans to add 25,000 more units at all leading stores across India.

In Feb 2010, UTV Indiagames also launched a new series of Cricket WorldCup Fever.

Dish TV has a subscriber base of 10 mn

@RapidTVNews: Asia’s first direct-to-home company, Dish TV now has a subscriber base of 10 mn. 1mn subscribers were added since November 2010. It registered a growth of 75% in subscriber base.

In 2003, when the pay-TV service was introduced in the market, Dish TV was the first player that had forayed in to this segment. In terms of subscriber base, Dish TV is the biggest player in the DTH segment. Other players operating in the DTH segment are Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel Digital TV, Reliance Digital TV, and Videocon d2h. All these players together cater to a subscriber base of 30 mn.

Kajaria Ceramics acquires 51% stake in Soriso Ceramic

@India PE: Tiles maker Kajaria Ceramics has acquired a 51% stake in Gujarat-based Soriso Ceramic in an all-cash deal for INR 56 mn.

With this acquisition, both the companies will increase their capacity further to cater to the southern and western part of the country to take advantage in transportation charges. With this acquisition, Kajaria Ceramics’ total capacity would touch 30.60 mn square metre by March 2011. The acquisition will also add a new production base for the company in Gujarat. It already has manufacturing operations in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Pharmacy retail chain, Guardian Lifecare plans rapid expansion

@Pharmabiz: Gurgaon-based pharmacy retail chain, Guardian Lifecare is planning expansion of its network across the country by investing INR 500 mn every year. The company is aiming to open 600 stores in the next three years and plans to add 50 to 75 stores every year both in the company owned and franchisee formats.

The company currently has 230 stores across the country. It has its presence in 26 cities and is present inside hospitals with over 11,000 beds in various private, central, state government and charitable hospitals.

Fortis to acquire majority stake in Australia-based DCH

@Business Standard: Fortis Global Healthcare Holdings is looking to acquire a majority stake in Australia’s Dental Corporation Holdings (DCH), after it had announced the acquisition of about 33% stake in the company for about INR 4.5 bn in Dec, 2010. The additional shares will be bought at an 18% premium over the price at which Fortis had earlier invested in the company.

This acquisition will increase Fortis’ share to more than 50.1% and up to 58.6% in DCH.
